Storytime

Reading recommendations from theologian, professor, pastor, and author, Dallas Willard, to theologian, teacher, pastor, and author, Trevor Hudson

One of the special gifts that Dallas Willard gave Trevor Hudson was space for Trevor to ask Dallas questions.  These ranged from theological questions and ethical dilemmas to the nitty gritty of daily life. During one of Dallas’s visits to South Africa, Trevor asked Dallas if he could provide him with a reading list of the most formative books. Dallas responded, “I suggest you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (from the Bible). Somewhat disappointed by this response, Trevor said, “Okay I’ve got that down. Are there other books you recommend that I read?” This time Dallas was more emphatic in his response. “My suggestion is that you take the next twenty years or so to read and meditate on the four Gospels. Read them repeatedly, immerse yourself in the words and deeds of Jesus, and commit to memory as much as you are able.”
